It is also the access route to the second stage of the Bevagna – Bettona Traverse and, more generally, allows you to reach the crest of the Poggio delle Civitelle, and, from, there, the Gualdese side.
\nThe Sanctuary of Madonna della Valle, built in 1212, had been destroyed and rebuilt several times, most recently after the 1997 earthquake. But even in the long years of abandonment, the shrine, nestled in a beautiful forest of towering oaks and chestnut trees, continued to be a landmark for the community, as evidenced by the devotional structures spontaneously rebuilt outside. When the renovation is complete, it will also house a hiking refuge, a pivot for the crossing on foot from Bevagna to Bettona.
\nFrom here we climb to the ruins of Madonna del Monte, a convent abandoned in 1555 by the nuns for security reasons, thus giving rise to the present Bevagna monastery significantly named ” S.
